The Bourbon
What is Blue Lot® Bourbon?
Blue Lot® is a six-year, single-barrel straight bourbon whiskey rooted in West Virginia game day culture.
It begins at Green River Distillery in Owensboro, Kentucky, using the K13 mash bill of 78% corn, 13% rye, and 9% malted barley. The bourbon is then brought to West Virginia, proofed with West Virginia spring water, and bottled in Summersville.
What expressions does Blue Lot® offer?
Blue Lot® is available in two expressions:
Blue Lot® 100 Proof
A six-year, single-barrel bourbon bottled at 100 proof.
Blue Lot® Barrel Proof
A six-year, single-barrel bourbon bottled at full cask strength. The exact proof varies by barrel.
What does Blue Lot® taste like?
Blue Lot® has a rich, full-flavored profile with notes of toffee, dark brown sugar, dried apricot, vanilla, toasted oak, and baking spice.
The 100 Proof expression is bold and balanced. Barrel Proof delivers a more concentrated version of the same flavor profile, with greater intensity and natural variation from barrel to barrel.
What does single barrel mean?
Single barrel means the bourbon in each bottle comes from one individual barrel rather than a blend of multiple barrels.
Because no two barrels mature in exactly the same way, there can be subtle differences in aroma, flavor, proof, and finish from one release to another.
What is the mash bill?
Blue Lot® is made from Green River Distillery’s K13 mash bill:
- 78% corn
- 13% rye
- 9% malted barley
What does non-chill filtered mean?
Non-chill filtered bourbon retains more of its natural oils and texture.
This can contribute to a fuller mouthfeel and may cause slight cloudiness at colder temperatures. That is natural and does not affect the quality of the bourbon.
Where is Blue Lot® distilled?
Blue Lot® is distilled at Green River Distillery in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Where is Blue Lot® bottled?
Blue Lot® is proofed with West Virginia spring water and bottled in Summersville, West Virginia.
What does WV Grown mean?
Blue Lot® carries the WV Grown designation from the West Virginia Department of Agriculture.
For Blue Lot®, the designation reflects the work completed in West Virginia, including proofing with West Virginia spring water and bottling in Summersville.
Is Blue Lot® a West Virginia bourbon?
Blue Lot® is a West Virginia spirits brand.
The bourbon is distilled and aged in Kentucky, then brought to West Virginia, where it is proofed with West Virginia spring water and bottled in Summersville.
Is Blue Lot® a craft bourbon?
Blue Lot® is a single-barrel bourbon produced by Tailgate Spirits LLC, a non-distiller producer.
Tailgate Spirits sources mature bourbon from Green River Distillery, selects individual barrels, and completes the proofing and bottling process in West Virginia.
Is Barrel Proof a limited release?
Yes. Blue Lot® Barrel Proof is produced one barrel at a time, so availability is limited by the yield of each barrel.
Serving & Storage
What is the best way to drink Blue Lot®?
Blue Lot® can be enjoyed:
- Neat
- Over one large rock
- With a few drops of water
- In a classic bourbon cocktail
The 100 Proof expression works especially well in an Old Fashioned. Barrel Proof can benefit from a few drops of water and a few minutes of rest in the glass.
Can I use Blue Lot® in cocktails?
Yes.
Its proof, rye spice, and rich flavor profile allow it to hold up well in classic bourbon cocktails such as an Old Fashioned or Gold Rush.
How should I store Blue Lot®?
Store the bottle upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and major temperature changes.
Does bourbon expire?
An unopened bottle can remain stable for many years when stored properly.
After opening, the bourbon remains safe to drink, but the flavor may gradually change as the amount of air in the bottle increases.
